Fencing Installation in Bishopston

A new fence changes how a garden feels: it marks the boundary, keeps children and dogs in, and gives you back some privacy. We put up new fencing across Bishopston and the rest of Gower, on open plots, along lanes and in back gardens of every size.

Each job starts with a visit to see the run, the ground and what is there now. After that you get a written quote. On the day, the line is set out, the posts go in, then the rails and boards or the panels, with gravel boards along the bottom where the style uses them.

What it covers

  • Feather edge (close board) fencing
  • Fence panels on timber or concrete posts
  • Picket fencing for front gardens and borders
  • Horizontal slatted fencing
  • Gravel boards along the base
  • Taking down the old fence first, if there is one

Fence Repair and Replacement in Bishopston

Wind off the bay and wet Gower winters are hard on fences. Posts rot at ground level, panels blow out and whole runs start to lean. If yours has seen better days, we can replace the broken boards, panels or posts, or take the old fence down and put up a new one where patching it would not last.

When we come to look, we will say which we would do and why, and the quote covers exactly that. The photos here are two of our own jobs: an old patched-up fence swapped for new panels, and a tired lane fence in Crofty replaced with feather edge.

What it covers

  • Replacing broken or missing panels
  • New posts where the old ones have rotted or snapped
  • Re-boarding feather edge fences
  • Straightening runs that have started to lean
  • Full replacement when repairs will not last
  • Clearing the old fence away from the line

Feather Edge Fencing

Feather edge is the fence we put up most. Tapered boards are nailed upright onto rails so each one overlaps the next, which leaves no gaps to see through and copes well with a slope, because the boards follow the ground rather than stepping down in panel-sized jumps.

We have built it as low as the 4ft fence in this photo from Burry Green and as tall privacy fencing round back gardens, along lanes in Crofty and footpaths in Cross Hands, and round patios in West Cross. It can be finished with a matching feather edge gate.

What it covers

  • Boards fixed to rails between posts
  • Low boundary fences up to tall privacy screens
  • Runs that follow sloping ground
  • Gravel boards to keep the boards off the soil
  • Matching feather edge gates
  • Long boundary runs along lanes and fields

Panel, Picket and Slatted Fencing

Not every garden wants feather edge. Fence panels slotted between concrete posts, with concrete gravel boards at the base, are a tidy choice for back gardens, and the posts themselves will not rot. Picket fencing suits front gardens and the edge of a lawn, where you want a boundary without blocking the view.

For a more modern look, horizontal slatted fencing works well round decks, patios and new lawns. If you are not sure which style suits your garden, tell us what you want the fence to do and we will talk you through the options when we come out.

What it covers

  • Fence panels between concrete posts
  • Concrete or timber gravel boards
  • Picket fencing for front gardens
  • Horizontal slatted fencing and screens
  • Fencing to finish off a new deck or patio
  • Advice on which style suits the job

Garden Gates

A gate is often the part of a fence that gets the most use, and the first to sag. We hang new side and garden gates, usually as part of a new run of fencing so the gate matches the boards around it.

The photo shows a small job in Gowerton: a feather edge side gate fitted alongside a new deck by the back door. If you only need a gate, or a gate replaced in an existing fence, ask all the same.

What it covers

  • Feather edge side gates
  • Gates to match new fencing
  • Replacement gates in an existing fence
  • Gates as part of a decking job
  • Posts set to carry the gate
  • Hinges and latch fitted

Decking Alongside Your Fencing

Decking is the other carpentry job we do most, and it often goes in at the same time as a fence. A deck can level out a sloping corner, give you somewhere to sit by the back door, or make a raised spot to look out over the fields.

We build decks with steps, spindle balustrades and fenced edges. One customer asked us to make a garden with a steep drop to a stream safe for her children: the answer was a deck and a fenced boundary, built together.

What it covers

  • Ground-level and raised timber decks
  • Steps between levels
  • Spindle balustrades round raised decks
  • Fencing or screens round the deck
  • Decking by the back door
  • Decks planned with a new fence or gate
